It’s all about greenery; many couples are choosing greenery-only decor, which perfectly complements the other big trend: metallics. Gaby Frescura from the wonderful wedding blog Southbound Bride says, “Another trend that’s definitely on the rise is industrial style, which beautifully contrasts functional items with wedding prettiness for a surprising and delightful result. This is another reason metallics will continue to stay strong in 2017, especially copper – although we’re moving towards the softer effect of brushed metallics rather than the bright glitter and shine of the last couple of years.”
Dramatic floral statements are also huge in 2017, so oversized bouquets, floral walls and hanging centrepieces are all popular options. There’s a big influence from overseas for these dramatic installations, but here in SA the conscientious couple will be veering towards succulents and water-wise decor. Non-floral options for dramatic centrepieces can be everything from balloons to lanterns, hanging candles and even homemade chandeliers using branches, crystals and fairy lights.
Hygge is huge. Hygge is a Danish word that means to enjoy life’s simple pleasures. From a decor perspective that means firepits, candlelight, greenery, warm colours and nature. Essentially, it’s “cosiness in nature”, so perfect for a barn or country winter wedding.
